Frequently I hear news reports of legal complaints alleging discrimination. From
where I stand, there's nothing wrong with discrimination. Discrimination is a
necessary part of life.
Of course, they are complaining about illegal discrimination, where a particular
judgement is applied to a decision when it should not be. And that's as it
should be.
But, unqualified, discrimination simply means to be able to tell the difference
between things, and is in no way illegal at all. It's just that those who use
the term figure it no longer needs a qualifier. It's a bit like those who
want me to wish them luck without specifying which kind.
