Sun Microsystems' Solaris 2.6 release has some missing symbols in one of their Openwindows libraries which does not allow the Parallax Graphics "ddx" dynamically loaded server extensions to load.
You must utilize the library from an earlier version of Solaris in order to allow Openwindows/CDE to function under Solaris 2.6 using a Parallax "framebuffer" card (XVideo, PowerVideo, MultiVideo).
PROCEDURE TO GET PARALLAX FRAME BUFFER CARDS TO WORK WITH SOLARIS 2.6 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Due to a bug in Solaris 2.6, a file from Solaris 2.5/2.5.1 must be used in place of a Solaris 2.6 file in order to get Parallax frame buffer cards to work under Solaris 2.6. Here is the procedure to follow... 1) If you currently have Solaris 2.5/2.5.1 installed on your computer, save the file /usr/openwin/server/lib/libmfb.so.1 so that you can copy it back to disk after you install Solaris 2.6. OR... If you have a Solaris 2.5/2.5.1 CD-ROM, you can obtain the libmfb.so.1 file located in the /cdrom0/s0/export/exec/sparc.Solaris_2.5.1/openwin/server/lib directory. 2) Install the Parallax frame buffer card into your computer and then install Solaris 2.6. 3) Install the Parallax software for Solaris 2.5/2.5.1 on your computer. 4) Reboot the computer--make certain that Solaris 2.6 functions properly BEFORE copying the file. 5) Go to the /usr/openwin/server/lib directory and do the following... * mv libmfb.so.1 libmfb.so.1.orig (Rename the 2.6 file.) * Copy the 2.5/2.5.1 version of libmfb.so.1 to this directory. * Make certain there exists a link libmfb.so that links to libmfb.so.1 To create the link, enter: ln -s libmfb.so.1 libmfb.so
